Family Tech Agreement

Moving from "Control" to "Connection"

We, the family, agree that technology is a tool to help us create, learn, and connect, not a trap to keep us scrolling. We agree to the following principles to protect our time, our sleep, and our relationships.

1. The "Phone-Free" Zones

The Landing Strip: All devices charge in the communal area (Kitchen/Hallway) overnight. No devices in bedrooms after 8:30 PM. Dinner Connection: Meals are 100% device-free for everyone (including parents). The Car: Short trips (under 20 mins) are for talking or music, not scrolling.

2. Tool vs. Toy (The Quality Ratio)

We distinguish between "Creative" usage and "Passive" usage.

The Creative Whitelist: Apps for coding, art, music, writing, and reading allow for more generous time limits. The Consumption Cap: Passive scrolling (Shorts/Reels/TikTok) is limited to 30 minutes per day.

3. The Safety Promise

The "No Freak Out" Rule:

"If I see something scary, weird, or unsafe online, I promise to tell a parent immediately. The parent promises to react calmly and not confiscate the device just because I was honest."

4. The Parent's Pledge

I will not check work emails during family dinner. I will respect your digital privacy unless safety is a concern. I will participate in the "Good, Bad, Grateful" ritual at dinner.
